Resumé/Work History


Born August 4, 1970, David M. Shere began playing the piano at the age of six, performing in numerous recitals throughout his childhood.

 

At the age of eleven David took up the acoustic guitar, later taking up the electric guitar and pursuing interests in rock, blues and jazz.

In 1997, David began teaching music privately at Suburban Music in Wheaton, IL.

David also enrolled in College of Dupage, Glen Ellyn, IL full-time to study music theory and composition.

In June 2000, David received his Associate of Arts diploma [A.A.] from College of Dupage.

 

David moved to California in September 2000 to study music at the University of California at Santa Barbara with Jeremy Haladyna

After a year as an undergrad at UCSB, David transferred to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA, in September 2001.

 

David graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree [B.of M.] from Cornish in May 2003.

 

In September of 2003, David returned to UC Santa Barbara to pursue graduate studies in Music Composition.

As a composer, David has had acoustic and electronic works performed by the Odeon string quartet, the Seattle Chamber Players, CREATE, and the UCSB Ensemble for Contemporary Music.

His installation work "Faces of the Elder Gods" was included in the Spring 2005 ECM Primavera Festival.

 

David completed his Master of Arts [M.A.] degree in Music Composition at UC Santa Barbara in June of 2006,

 and officially received his M.A. diploma in November 2006.

 

David completed his doctoral dissertation [Ph.D.] in Music Composition at UC Santa Barbara in September of 2007,

 and officially received his Ph.D. diploma in December 2007.

 

Since June of 2008, David has been giving private guitar lessons at Jensen Guitar & Music Co. in Santa Barbara, CA.

 

In 2009, David released a full-length, 14-track solo project entitled 45th Street Blues,

performing a CD release party on April 11, 2009 at Jensen’s Mainstage concert venue.

 

In October of 2010, David founded Jensen’s Rock Studio, a coaching program designed to hone students’ performance skills in a band setting.
